Questions:

1.  What are some of your goals for the upcoming year?

My goals are to finally stay healthy for a whole year and to challenge for a spot on the 2000 Olympic team in the 5K or 10K.

2.  What are some of your plans for the upcoming year to reach those goals?

Number one is to stay healthy.  After 3 frustrating years of injuries, I must do all the little things to stay healthy (massage, stretching, eat right, sleep).  Also, I have to stay patient so that I do not overtrain in the first few months of 2000.  I do not have my normal XC base, so I must be very careful not to do too much too quickly.

3.  What is(are) your favorite workout(s)?

My favorite workout is:
  --1600m hard (4:08-4:16), a 6 mile steady run, 1600m hard (4:08-4:12)
I also like:
  --2000m cutdown workouts (70,68,66,64,60)
Basically, the closer a workout is to a race/time trial, the better I like it.

4.  What factors do you attribute to your success?

I thrive on tough competition.  The more loaded the field, the more excited I get.  I have a good racing head.  If I am physically ready to run a good race, I will always be mentally ready to run my best.

5.  What is your training philosophy?

See below.

6.  Do you have any advice that may help other runners reach their potential?

Stick to the program.  If your coach has a system that produces good results, don't add or subtract your own ideas without discussing with the coach.  The 'big picture' is more important than the next day/week/workout/etc.
