Running Online's Privacy Policy

Your privacy on the Internet is important to us. Because we gather certain types of information about Running Online users, we want you to understand the terms and conditions surrounding the capture and use of that information. This privacy statement discloses what information we gather, how we use it, and how to correct or change it.


 

Information that Running Online Gathers

Running Online gathers two types of information about users:

1.Anonymous Aggregate Information:

This refers to information that cannot be tied back to a specific individual. Aggregated tracking information helps us to determine which areas of our site users like and don't like based on traffic to those areas. Running Online does not track what links you follow, but we do track how many people do follow each link. This helps us a better service for you. We may disclose such aggregated information to third parties such as our advertisers and partners.

2. Personal Information:

This data may be requested when you sign up for Running Online's personalized services or register for contests, sweepstakes or other promotional programs offered on our service. We ask for this in order to provide you with the best experience possible using our membership programs.

Personally Identifiable Information refers to information that tells us specifically who you are, such as your name, email addresses or postal address. In many cases we need this information to provide the personalized or enhanced service that you have requested.

Examples of such services would be our Running Log which you can store your running information, look up local weather reports, and schedule events, or our Recruiting Database which stores very personal information about many High School Athletes. The information in the recruiting database is open to anyone however, that registers as a college recruiter. Such registers will be randomly check to verify their validity.
 
 

How Running Online Uses Information

Running Online uses any personal information that's voluntarily given by you in order to enhance your experience, whether to provide interactive or personalized elements on the site or to better prepare future content based on the interests of our users.

Running Online will not disclose any information that personally identifies you to parties other than development partners who are in part responsible for the pages in which you supplied information in connection with.

The only exceptions are as follows: 1) When the purpose and manner of disclosure is clearly defined in advance.

2) When we believe in good faith that disclosure is legally required or to protect our rights.

Search Terms

As a measure of user interest, we track search terms that are entered into our site. We create aggregate reports on user demographics and traffic patterns for advertisers and partners. This allows our advertisers to advertise more effectively, and allows you to receive advertisements that are most relevant to you. An advertiser will not receive specific information that you clicked their ad unless you voluntarily permit us to do so.

Cookies and Tracking

A cookie is a small data file that Web sites commonly write to your hard drive when you visit them. A cookie file contains information that can identify you anonymously in order to track traffic patterns on our site. The data is encrypted for your added security. Running Online currently only uses this in connection with our member services to enhance your experience. As cookies also provide you with a level of convenience -- since they "remember" your computer, they enable you to enter Running Online's Runner Log site as a member without having to log on each time.

Cookies don't identify you personally, but rather identify your computer when you visit our site. A cookie can't read data off your hard disk or read cookie files created by other sites. Your browser can be set to warn you before accepting cookies -- in this case, you will receive the warning message with each cookie. You can choose to refuse cookies by turning them off in your browser. You do not need to have cookies turned on to use Running Online, but you will need them for customizable areas such as the Runners Log. Upon Logging out of a customizable service your cookies are reset so they "forget" who your computer is.

Running Online Stores

>Running Online stores are set up purely as affiliate programs. Any purchases you make are known only to the store responsible for the product. Such as Fog Dog Sports â and Barns and Noble â These Stores alone are responsible for the merchandise and delivery of the merchandisse that you purchase from them.

Message Boards

Please remember that any postings in the Running Forum also known, as the message boards become public information.
Use caution when posting.

Out Side Links

It is important to note that Running Online contains many links to other sites, and that those sites may not follow the same privacy policies as Running Online. For instance, if you click an ad or a search result on Running Online, this will take you away from Running Online and to an entirely different site. These sites may send their own cookies to you, and as a result, may collect data and ask for personal information that Running Online would not. Just because a link appears in our site does not mean that we endorse the site we link to. We simply provide the links to help you find better products and information.

As always on the Internet, and off of it, use caution when dealing with unfamiliar sources.

Changes to Policy

Running Online reserves the right to change this policy at any time by notifying guests of the existence of a revised privacy policy.

Opt-Out Policy

Running Online gives you options wherever necessary and practical. Such choices include:

1. Opting not to participate in certain interactive areas, which completely does away with the need for any information from our users.

2. You may contact us at privacy@runningonline.com to have any of your active accounts, where private information is collected, to be deleted from our database. In effect this will cancel any memberships you have to the services you wished to have information deleted from.
